Ipswich Town v Arsenal

Green green is the new colour for me, green as the turf at Wembley, cos that is where my Arsenal will be in the FA Cup in 83.

We weren't. This was a league game at Ipswich and we won 1-0.

Hereford United v Arsenal

I loved FA Cup day early January. Not because we did well cos we rarely did. This was Hereford and we drew 1-1 at their place...there's some stories about that day out for sure! We won the replay 7-2! Tommy Caton sends in a free kick. RIP Tommy who died young...

Shamrock Rovers v Arsenal

A friendly in 1986, I hitched to Ireland to see us play Shamrock and Waterford. In the pic Quinn goes close with a header in the dim light at the old Milltown stadium. Now Quinn owns Sunderland and I live in Jakarta. Funny thing life...

FC Bayern v Gornik Zabrze

European Cup action in 1985 at the Olympic Stadium. A protest in support of Solidarity attracted the attention of the German police. Small crowd huh, this was during the beer festival and I was pretty well lathered, I even caught a train to dachau but felt kinda daft asking where the concentration camp was so went back on the Lowenbrau.

Young Boys Berne v FC Servette

The Wankdorf Stadium no less for this trip into sexual perversion that began at the Berne station where muggins old me went to the tourist wotsit and asked where the football stadium was. The girl behind the desk looked me straight in the face and said 'you'll be wanting wankdorf.' Later babe but first the football eh?

FC Basel v SC Zug

St Jakob Stadium in Switzerland had a pissant crowd for this game back in 84. Good old Zug won 2-0. All this trivia is worrying you know. Last season I went to see Persija v Persema and I dunno the score!

Bielefeld Tournament 1984

This was a 4 team bash featuring Arsenal, Arminia, Iraklis Salonika and some other mob, possibly from East Germany.

We won, you can see Mariner celebrating, and I really thought that would be the limit of our trophies.

Now of course we host Europe's finest but I have good memories of Bielefeld...and there was a beer festival outside!

Twente Enschede v Arsenal

It may have been a meaningless friendly but I was there. We lost 1-0 and my mates thought I was six pack short of a session for travelling round Europe watching football but that was fine...just found new mates that's all!

Sunderland v Arsenal

The old Roker Park I think this was the Mackem's biggest crowd of the season. Understable with the Arsenal in town but they had also reached the League Cup Final which may have helped.
4 quid to sit, bought my ticket off the travel club ladies on the train heading north...the shit I can remember eh?

Sampdoria v Inter Milan

Ahh Inter Rail. There I was in Switzerland by a lake taking it easy when I picks up a paper and see the great god Liam Brady playing in a friendly. Checking my Thomas Cook and next thing you know I'm heading south to Italy, telling everyone I was off to see Chippy. Some Inter fans took sympathy on me and plonked me in the away end.

Souness was playing as was Rummenigge if I recall. That Sampdoria has changed a bit I imagine!

Despite what the ticket says this was a friendly in August 84

York City v Arsenal

You think Arsenal fans have it tough now eh? Standing on those freezing terraces I never thought we'd ever win a trophy again let alone play the football Wenger has got us playing. Yeah I may whinge and moan but memories of days like this keep things in perspective. If you don't know the score then google it...I ain't telling!

Charlton Athletic v Leeds United

This was a cracking game and my only time at the Valley - love that East Terrace. Leeds won 3-2 I think...back in 84/85. Leeds failed to fill their end, middle picture, but kept up a good racket all game.

Israel v Chinese Taipei

Think this was an Olympic Games Qualifier played at the Sydney Football Stadium. Also played at the same venue was Australia v New Zealand in front of about 11,000 I believe!

If I remember correctly Chinese Taipei played Western Samoa in a play off at St George Stadium, I was there, they won 5-0 and it featured a tasty brawl at one stage.

Shrewsbury v Wimbledon

This was the season the Dons got promoted to the old First Division at the old Gay Meadow. Happy days!

Portsmouth v Crystal Palace

This was a League Cup tie early 80's but I forget when exactly and who won!
